Discover why people turn to our Birmingham, AL, pediatrician.
Our Birmingham, AL, pediatricians pride themselves on providing the highest quality medical care to children and teens. The goal of Acton Road Pediatrics is to offer a full range of services, all tailored to the growing and changing needs of every child that walks through the door. Wondering when you should turn to a pediatrician? Here are the top reasons,
Your Baby’s First Checkup
About three to five days after your baby leaves the hospital and comes home, you’ll be coming into our Birmingham, AL, practice to see our pediatrician for the first time. This first visit is essential, as it gives us a chance to evaluate your child’s overall health and create baseline readings to make sure they are healthy.
From there, we can continue to monitor them regularly and ensure that they are reaching developmental milestones and don’t have any congenital conditions that the hospital may have missed.
Regular Well-Child Visits
All children will need to visit their pediatrician regularly for checkups, even if they are perfectly healthy. These routine checkups are the best preventive care your child can get to protect against and detect health problems early. We can also provide early interventions and care when issues arise that can make your child better handle health problems that may occur along the way. Regular wellness visits will occur rather frequently for the first three years. After which, your child should only need to come in once a year for annual well-child visits unless they require treatment.
Common Illnesses and Injuries
While we would all love to protect our children from illness and injury, it will happen eventually. While minor problems like the common cold or a bruise probably aren’t going to land your child in our office, we are there for you when you are worried about your child’s fever, a painful ear infection, or a sprained ankle.
Sports Physicals
Whether your child plans to participate in sports or take physical education (PE) at school, chances are good that your child’s school will require a sports physical. Our Birmingham, AL, pediatrician is happy to do your child’s next sports physical. Remember not to wait until the end of summer to schedule this appointment, as spots fill up fast that time of year. Make sure to plan about 6-8 weeks before the school year starts to ensure your child is ready for the season.
Behavioral Issues
Children act up sometimes. They can be rambunctious, defiant at times, and have full-blown meltdowns, but these should be fleeting moments. If you’re noticing persistent behavioral problems with your child, you may want to discuss these behaviors with our team to see if your child could benefit from a behavioral assessment.
