I am originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where I grew up as the second oldest in a family of six. My dad was a welder and my mom a stay at home mom. I attended Our Lady of the Lake College, graduating with honors with a B.S. in Biology. Working several jobs to pay my way through college gave me insight into my future career. While working at a pediatric cardiology clinic, I discovered I really enjoyed working with kids. I realized I get to care for the entire family while still focusing on the patient and I loved the adaptability required for working with children. I can be not only a clinician, but also a motivational interviewer for healthy lifestyle changes, an advocate, and a teacher.
I went on to attend LSU Shreveport School of Medicine, where I graduated with honors. Along the way in school, I served as president of a non-profit organization, Support for Humanitarianism through Intercontinental Projects (SHIP). We fundraised for medical care overseas and served alongside local doctors in rural mobile medical clinics in Bungoma, Kenya for several years. My experience working alongside Kenyan clinicians has taught me creativity and adaptability even in limited resource settings and broadened my interests to working in underserved populations.
My adventure then continued in 2017 when I moved to Birmingham, Alabama for my pediatric internship and residency at UAB Department of Pediatrics/Children’s of Alabama. While in residency, I helped create and lead a Baby Safety Shower with several of my co-residents for the Young Mothers Program at a local high school, teaching high school age mothers preventative care and nutrition for their young infants. Since moving to Birmingham, I have deepened my roots here by making lifelong friends, finding a church family, and meeting my husband Jeff, a software developer. Jeff and I met in 2017 at a contra dance in downtown Birmingham and married in March 2019. We enjoy hiking, mountain bike riding, cooking good food together, and traveling. In August 2020, after graduating pediatric residency, I joined as a physician at Acton Road Pediatrics, where I am excited to continue serving and caring for those in my community.
